It feels good to organize

Friday, November 13, 2009

We've lived in this apartment since June and because we spent the summer working and I finished up my degree as well we've never really had the time to truly make this place our home. We've never had the chance to buy some nice shelves and other items to help us organize and it's driven me a tad mad. I've missed being able to keep things organized. I am a Virgo afterall.

So today after being treated out to a nice dinner after work; I made it a point to check out some bathroom organizers. We now have an over the door towel rack and an over the toilet shelf to keep the bathroom and other parts of the apartment organized.

We've started to clear out some of the clutter and hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to drop off the tons and tons of recycling that needs to be dropped off. I love the fact that we can recycle everything now. I feel much better about being able to recycle. At home we couldn't.

This is all important because we've made the decision to resign our lease for another year. I am looking forward to holding this place for one more year and being able to truly make our first place ours by adding our own touches and celebrating holidays and possibly entertaining.

I think one of my main goals for our home may be some sort of home altar. We share a table as it is with our own altars but I think a more 'home' altar may be in order. We'll see how things progress.

I haven't posted in awhile because my life has been very stressful. If it's not work, it's life and it's frustrating.

My work life, well that's another story. I'm starting to feel very overworked and very underpaid especially for someone that holds a B.S degree in my field. Things at work are stressful as well. I definitely feel like the communcation there is terrible and that the issues we are dealing with are never taken seriously and we're bullied into believing everything that occurs is our fault and that is frustrating.

I love my job, I love the kids but there are definitely things that I do not love and it's causing me quite a bit of stress.

And, to top it off, I'm pretty sure I'm sick. I've tried getting rest (however I haven't called off work) and it's not getting better. I think I need to light a candle and hope it all gets better!

Pet Loss

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

I didn't have a very good Monday. Our bed decided to die and then after we manage to get out there and actually get a new bed, we come home and I get a phone call telling me that my dog, that I had for 13 years (I got her in 1996 after my aunt died) passed away yesterday morning. I was pretty devestated and my grandfather was too. My grandmother was as well. She may have Alzheimers but she knows more than people assume. He buried her yesterday evening after the rain stopped. I feel like a bad pet parent because I haven't been home much the past few years and I was never able to find a place where I could take her or my cat so I could give them what I see as a better life than being at home.

My one new pet, my hermit crab Vesta passed away from PPS (post purchase stress) so we're making a trip later this evening to try and figure out if it's still covered under their 15 day gurrantee or not. I really hate how everything seems to hit all at once. So I certainly wasn't on my best game at work today so I truly hope things do get better!

I despise coincidences

Monday, September 28, 2009

So my partner and I have been sleeping on air mattresses since we moved in together in June. We've already gone through one as it had a hole and never fully stayed full. We woke up one morning on the floor. Then, this mattress that we've had for about two months started the same thing. We ended up taking it back and getting yet another air mattress but a different brand.

I had just said too that it was holding up quite well and that we'd probably never have to worry about getting another bed anytime soon and then this morning the bed was acting the same way and just wouldn't stay inflated very well.

I sure hope this one works cause I'm not in the mood to spend more money again on another bed! We really can't afford another bed right now, nor is freecycle an option as we've got no way to haul a bed at the present time. I sure hope that this works out well. I hate how everything seems to pop up right before it's time to pay something like rent or another large bill. At least we were able to split the bill for the new bed and were able to knock the price of the last bed off. So at least we saved some money.

I guess the lesson is, be careful what you say!

Mabon and Birthdays

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

First of all I'd like to wish everyone a joyous Mabon! Today my birthday fell on Mabon so it was an interesting day.

Thankfully my day was not as stressful as yesterday and today my partner made me a dinner. We went out and bought items to make homemade crab cakes and we made a side dish.

We actually celebrated with cake quite early, on Sunday or so I believe, but we still have some in the fridge so more cake will probably happen later tonight, haha.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day and I wish everyone the best of luck in the coming months.

Activities for Mabon

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Here are just a few ideas for Mabon. Feel free to try some of these out or to come up with your own ideas. If you're doing something fun, feel free to leave a note here!

-Hold a Thanksgiving rite to give thanks for all that you are thankful for in your life.

-Gather leaves, acorns and other gifts from nature to place on your altar or to use in crafts.

-Hold a potluck with friends and family and give thanks for your friends, your family and the abundance you have in your life. Try this Thanksgiving Prayer from

-Provide food for our feathered friends. Great craft idea for kids, take pinecones, cover in peanut butter, roll in bird seed and place on the trees!

-Make a feast from your garden or local farmers market. Be thankful for your garden's harvest and use it how you can.

-Give to charity or donate your time to a charity. They could always use your help!

-Clean up your home and be ready to invite winter into your life!

Mabon is almost upon us

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Since Fall is right around the corner I think it's time to really partake in the spirit of the season. In just a few days time, I've noticed the leaves on the trees around us slowly starting to change, some of which have already fallen from the trees. The weather is starting to cool too. We have the windows open again here but it may be time to close them soon as it's starting to warm up a bit.

I have plans this weekend to make some items for my classroom that are fall related. Since our children are toddlers, we're going to allow them to safely explore Fall with bottles full of items that relate to fall such as fallen leaves, acorns and the like. I have some items here that I'm going to place in some bottles before Monday so we can engage our kids in Fall activities.

My birthday is on Tuesday and I'm not sure what's going to happen. I'm going to take a trip home on Friday since it's payday to see everyone for a few days to celebrate my birthday I suppose. So while I'm here this week I'm going to enjoy the time. I'm thinking about taking a walk to spot the changes and just spending some time outside to get into the fun of Fall while I can. Before I know it, it'll be time for Winter!

It's time to open those windows!

Monday, September 14, 2009

Since the weather has been so nice and cool here, we've elected to start turning off the air conditioner and just opening the windows to let the cool breeze of mother nature flow through the apartment.

I can't tell you how much more comfortable this apartment feels with a refreshing breeze flowing through the apartment. It's definitely helped remove the stagnate feeling and it's helped air this place out!

So, save some money, refresh your home naturally and connect with nature! Open those windows wide, push out the negativity that may have collected during the warm summer days and begin to welcome fall!

A Ritual For Peace

Sunday, September 13, 2009

I've been scouring the net off and on for awhile now with Stumble, as I've recently gotten back into using their service since I always find really interesting things when I search. I came across this great and yet simple ritual for peace that I think anyone could use as and I think people should feel free to use it if they wish as everyone needs and could use a little peace in their lives.

The ritual is to be designed to suit your needs so you're free to use the colors, candles and incense that suit your needs. The chant is simple but long so you may need to print it off and keep on hand during your rite.

"From out of the dark and into the light
A circular mark, a candle burns bright.
I look towards the sky, my song I do sing
Spirits soar high and gifts do I bring.
I offer my all, my mind I then clear
Harken my call, I fell you are near.
Candle burns higher, my spirits set free
Hotter than fire, the magick will be.
Let magick come 'round, from under the ground
To form with my sound and then to be bound.
Around me I feel the magick so real
Before you I knees, the spell I now seal.
Let all hatred CEASE
And let there be PEACE.
These words that I say
With magick AWAY!
This spell that I send
Is now at an end.
Let the magick I've laid
Go forth and not fade.
So Mote It Be!"

It's coming!

Saturday, September 12, 2009

My co-teacher and I have been planning a Fall theme for our classroom and we just finished that yesterday. We're planning on trying to add some other things that are not lesson plans like observation materials too. We're really trying to get into Fall for this lesson and I'm excited.

That, and the weather seems to be following suit. It's been cool and breezy lately with some sun. Today is another home football game and it's cloudy and cool but it's nice that the weather is making a noticable shift to Fall weather. I think the only reason I really love Fall is because I'm a Fall baby! My birthday is on the first day of Fall this year (Mabon too) and I always loved the fact that my birthday usually fell on the day when it switched seasons. That's not something I ever really grew out of surprisingly.

I also saw Halloween costumes being placed on store shelves yesterday so that's also exciting even though I never usually go to a party or dress up anymore it's signaling to me Halloween is almost here and I love that part of the year too!

Anticipating Fall and Halloween

Monday, September 7, 2009

The past few days I've had this strong urge to be crafty. I've be feeling the pull towards the darker time of the year. I'm really feeling the magic that comes with this time of year. I'm ready for fall and I'm ready for Halloween.

I'm ready for the decorations, the cool nights, the darkness that comes with it and the haunted houses. I find it to be in great fun and it's just the time of year that I really love. I've found myself anticipating the Halloween decorations that come out soon as I want to get right to decorating and making some great stuff that I can place about our Apartment to make this place feel all witchy and fun.

Is anyone else feeling this way? Do you have plans for decoration or crafts? I'd love to hear your ideas as I'm feeling crafty. I want to make something fun, witchy or not!

A Chant for Healing

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

I got hurt at work today so I've been looking online for chants or other information on healing. The injury isn't that terrible I don't think, at least I'm trying to stay positive that it's nothing more than a smashed finger. One of the children in my classroom pulled a heavy wooden toy from a shelf and instead of holding onto it, he let it fall to the ground with half of it landing on my finger. The fall was probably about 2 feet but combine it with the size and the weight of the toy, it was pretty high and it really hurt. My finger was numb for several minutes. Now it's mostly bruised and swollen but it does twinge when moved sometimes and when I bump it I almost go through the roof. Here is one chant I'm planning on working with over the next few days. And, I do plan on engaging in other means of healing as well, such as rest, ice and some tylenol.

"By the power of the Lady By the power of three

Pain away, rest well, pain away.

As I do will, So Mote it be"

Repeat 3 times while visualizing the ailment/condition leaving your body.

A Candle for Managing Stress

Monday, August 24, 2009

I don't know about you but I think candle burning spells are some of the most relaxing and yet at the same time, one of the most magical ways to cast spells. And, whenever I'm feeling stressed I know that gazing into the flame of a candle is very relaxing to me.

Llewellyn had this in New Worlds and posted a link to it on Twitter. I follow them on Twitter because I think they have some interesting things to post every now and then and when I read this article I definitely felt like this ritual was something that I had to do. I haven't had a chance to do it yet because I'm quite sore and quite tired from work, and quite possibly a cold that I can't quite shake yet but I plan on engaging in this at some point whenever I'm feeling a tad better and more apt to cast magick.

Head on over to Llewellyn and read it.

A Candle for Managing Stress

A Protection Chant

Sunday, August 16, 2009

"I am protected, day and night
Oh gracious goddess
By your might."

Chant until the danger is gone or until you feel you are truly protected.

Saturday, August 15, 2009

My life since moving has been interesting. I've gone from job to another job that pays a lot better. My partner and I have been doing quite well I think too. We haven't really quarrled, we're not poor either. We've managed to pay our bills and on time and we haven't needed any help to accomplish that goal. I am truly hoping that our decision to move in together full time and to move away from family was also a good one. I feel like it was but you know sometimes we get doubts.

Our house is covered in plants with our altars taking over our bedroom. Currently, our altars are together on one shelf but we keep both of our items there. Mine is Kuan Yin related and hers is definitely more eastern as well but they fit well together. We haven't had much spiritual time, especially with working 40 hours a week for me and her working two jobs at some points to stay afloat.

I am definitely grateful that we are able to make this work. I am grateful that we have jobs and can pay for things that we need and for the occasional thing that we want. I'm grateful that we're being smart with our money and trying to figure out ways to save money so we can be financially fit for the future. I think things will work out for us in the end and I'm praying that it is. I know we can do it and we are.

Saturday, July 4, 2009

I've been away for so long because I recently moved into an apartment with my partner. We've been there for about a month. I'm trying to finish up my college education and am working part-time at a job, that is well interesting and isn't helping us pay the bills much. My partner is working two jobs, one with me, the other at her old cafe job, but that one is sporadic so it's been interesting.

I don't have internet access much there. We have to go to one of the school buildings to use their wireless internet so we can check email, and so I can work on school work. With our jobs and the low pay, we really cannot afford to pay for internet at our place right now, so that's why I've been away for so long. I still come home every so often, which is where I am now. I'm hoping that within a few weeks, we can start working on getting the net up at our place so we can really have a few creature comforts at home.

My magic work right now consists a lot of prosperity magic and candle lighting rituals to honor Kuan Yin. If you have favorite prosperity magic I'd love to hear about them!

How to use Playing cards as Tarot Cards

Monday, May 25, 2009

The first tarot cards were playing cards. I've always wanted to delve into using playing cards for tarot cards because the decks are cheaper, and from my experience just as accurate with information.

I created my first deck probably about a year ago and they're very accurate. I did a reading today because I wanted to know if the decision to move to a new home right after college to help finish summer classes and try to get a nice first job was a good idea. I was told three things, to make a money talisman, burn a candle for prosperity and that lies or gossip may be going on right now.

Here are just a few links that I've found useful to understanding playing cards as tarot cards.

A Witch on a Budget

Thursday, May 21, 2009

I've wanted to write a post for a long time about how to save money while actively practicing magick. I've picked up a lot of tips over the years and want to pass them on. Everyone could stand to save a little money, especially during these trying times.

1. Buy Books Used - Who says you have to buy your books brand new? That certainly is not the case. I used to buy many of my books new for several years but I realized that I was just wasting too much money. I've started buying books used from Amazon and have saved myself quite a bit of money over the years.

2. Don't buy expensive, fancy candles - You don't need those candles. I've found some of the best candles at local dollar stores. You don't need to buy fancy, charged candles. You can do it yourself and save yourself quite a bit of money.

3. Make your own tools, or buy them used - Fancy tools are not needed to practice magick. You can buy tools from thrift stores, dollar stores, or better yet, why not make your own tools? Wands can be carved from sticks, flat stones can be used for altar tiles, etc. Get creative! Don't spend money on something you don't have to, if you don't want to.

4. Save old candles, melt them down and make new ones - Unless you feel strongly about reusing candles or if spells call for burying candle remains, do so. However, you can save small pieces of candles and pick a time during the year (a Sabbat) and make it part of your celebration activities to make new candles from old candles.

5. Don't buy fancy altars - You don't need them. Of course, if you wish to have a fancy altar, you are welcome to buy one, but in reality, you do not need it. You can use a dresser, a trunk or even a cardboard box for an altar and you do not need to spend a thing. Not to mention, if you are creative, you can buy some wood and make it yourself.

6. Think outside the box - Find new ways to use what you already have. If you have a statue of a woman that you think resembles the Goddess, use it on your altar. If you have glass jars that are collecting dust, use them as candle holders, herb storage, etc.

7. Don't throw anything away -- unless you know you cannot use it - If I have candles around the house that come in their own candle holders, I never throw the holders away. I place the holder in the freezer for awhile so the wax will fall out. Then, I save the holder so I can reuse it later to hold other candles. I have many candle holders now that are all shapes and sizes and I've found a use for every one of them.

8. Always look for sales - If I'm shopping and see candles on sale, or incense on sale that I know I will use, if I can afford it, then I buy what I can. You'll have great luck buying colored candles during certain holidays such as after Christmas and Halloween when everything goes on sale. Don't be afraid to shop those special isles for what you need!

9. Keep regular stock of what you have - Every month or so, go through what you have and make notes of what you don't have. Or, if you're a really organized person, keep a running of list of your magickal supplies where you store them. Cross off items as you use them so you can easily tell what you have later. This prevents constant running to get new supplies and spending money that you didn't need to spend.

10. Delegate a special time to restock your magickal cabinet - I know some witches pick a season or a sabbat to restock. If you do this once a year, you're helping prevent yourself from splurging and buying unnecessary items. If you keep a regular schedule, eventually you'll get so used to buying items during that time, it will almost be like a holiday itself.

I hope these tips help you save money and enlighten your practice!

Spell for a peaceful home

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

For this spell you will need a piece of rose quartz and a white or blue candle.

To Cast: Relax, take a deep breath and hold the rose quartz in your hand and project loving energy into the rose quartz. Focus on love and the act of sending love into the stone for several minutes. When you feel finished, put down the stone and pick up your white or blue candle. Charge the candle with calming, relaxing energy. Again, keep up the visualization for as long as you feel. When finished, light the candle and place the piece of rose quartz as close to the candle as possible. Visualize the energies mixing together to create a harmonious, loving and calm atmosphere. Then, see the energy progressing through the rest of your home calming, yet energizing your home with the energies you wish to bring into your home. When finished, become busy doing other things not focusing on or worrying about the spell you have just cast. But please stay close so you can check on the candle, never leave it unattended! Let the candle burn out if possible. If you cannot let it burn out completely, light the candle a few minutes each day until consumed.

Repeat this spell as often as necessary.

Freezer Magick

Monday, April 27, 2009

Living in college with roommates certainly means a lot of aggravation. However, whenever said roommates are not really quite nice people and quite plainly stamp upon the rights of others and turn to harrassment and lying (and even a bit of stealing) I really can't take that lightly. I don't appreciate being lied to, nor do I enjoy dealing with someone that I cannot really trust because I do not know what they are capable of doing, nor am I sure what they will do.

I decided that enough was enough after battling with a crazy, childish roommate for one week. Things weren't getting any better, and after being lied to, directly to my face, I gave up. I was trying very hard not to deal with this problem by magickal means but I did exhaust all of my mundane ways of dealing with the problem (talking with RA's over and over and over again about the issue). I decided that I needed to put her on ice.

So, to cast a freezer and to stop someone from harming you, you only need a freezer, a piece of paper, and an ice tray, a plastic baggie or skip those and just use the freezer.

First, write the name of the person that is giving you a hard time on a slip of paper. If you don't know their name, just write enemies or write the person that is causing me trouble, or you can even freezer a situation, the choice is yours. After you have written what you need to on the paper, fold the paper three or so times to make it small.

Now, here you can put the piece of paper in an ice tray, fill it with water and place it in the freezer. I've just placed the piece of paper in the freezer without water and have had great success. Or, you can fill a ziploc baggie with water, place the paper in and put it in the freezer. What you say here is up to you. You can say something like, "You will stay here and freeze for as long as I please" and slam the door shut, freezing the problem or situation. Or you can chant something else.

Variations of this spell involve putting sugar or honey into the water to help sweeten the person up. I came across ways to give the person a terrible time several years ago, but I cannot remember what those ingredients were. If you are interested in that sort of thing, try a google search.

This spell will not harm anyone, it will only freeze them and their actions. It's like a cooling down period for someone. If you feel uncomfortable casting this spell, add after the spell chant, "May this not reverse or place upon me any curse".

How to Make Extra Money Online

Saturday, March 21, 2009

I know this isn't something I normally do but I figured everyone is looking for extra money these days so I thought I'd pass on some places that I use to make some extra money.

First up, we have Mylot. Mylot is like one giant message board. The only difference between Mylot and other messageboards is you can get paid to participate. At Mylot, you just make posts or reply to other's posts and get paid for it. Your earnings show up the next day. As soon as you reach $10 you can get paid through Paypal. I've been at Mylot for over 3 years and love it. I have always gotten paid when I've reach the minimum and it's always showed up before the 15th of the next month.

Second is
Associated Content. Associated Content (AC for short) is a website that is like a giant online newspaper. They pay you to write articles with high keywor densities. You can get paid more for page views on your articles and you're usually paid monthly for the page views. Payment is through Pay Pal as well. AC has changed quite a bit over the years but they still do pay.

Third is something new but I'm pretty happy with it so far. Swagbucks is not really a place to make money but it sure can save you money. Swagbucks is a search engine that pays you to search. As you search you have the chance to win Swagbucks. Collect enough and you can 'buy' prizes from their store. They have gift cards, video games and more. You can also recycle items to get more bucks or shop online and get more bucks to get items. I've gotten Amazon gift cards from them without a problem. You can also earn bucks by going on code hunts. Codes are posted randomly and if you find them you can earn more bucks. It's fun and I really enjoy searching.

I hope these really hope someone out there.

Lack of Updates

Monday, March 16, 2009

I haven't updated in awhile because I'm literally in my last semester of college and things are catching up with me. I have to worry about graduation, finishing up some summer classes so I can really get my degree and things like jobs, finances and an apartment.

I really don't want to see this blog go as I enjoy writing in it when I can so I really hope that I can make it easier to write in this in the future.
